A line from Pier Paolo Pasolini

Mark Young

I am listening to Stevie
Wonder. Red is the hue
par excellence. I plan to
do some landscaping

around it. It’s a comic that
I need to see made into a
poster. The subject? Life
as a tree, death as a flower.

  1. I love the line “I plan to do some landscaping/ around it…” Especially the placement of the line break. It emphasizes the synesthesia of sound and color, in the preceding line an startles the reader with the movement from the ordinary (landscaping) sound and color. I’m not sure why the title is in parentheses. It reason may be obvious to most readers, but not this one.

  2. The quotation marks are a holdout from our old style. I’m slowly going through and removing them when I have time (so many little tasks in the editing queue, so little time). In fact, I think I’ll remove them from this one right now.
